What is Mesothelioma?

It is a type of cancer which normally grows in abdomen, heart and somewhere in the lining of lungs. lining in lungs are normally thin layers of tissues, surrounded entire organ, pleura is an other type of tissue, that covers chest cavity and lungs, which help protecting lungs.another tissue = peritoneum, which is surrounded mostly in abdomen organs, and pericardium covering the heart.

Mesothelioma is very much unique type of cancer, but serious as well, there are total 03 mesothelioma based types of this serious disease.

  1. Epithelioid is the common among three, the ratio of Epithelioid is 50%-70% of total cases registered.
  2. 2nd type is sarcomatoid, it's ratio is 10%-20% of total mesothelioma cases registered, it is more unpredictable type of cancer in its nature.
  3. 3rd is biphasic, it is further divided in 2 other types, these cases are registered in 20%-35% of all cases registered till date.

Recent consensus showing around 1500-2500 average mesothelioma cases registered annually. Majority of mesothelioma diseases take place in chest wall, which is comonly termed as pleural mesothelioma, more than half of the cases registered are of pleural nature. other mesothelioma cancers include peritoneal mesothelioma (which starts in abdomen) and pericardial mesothelioma (which starts somewhere in lining surrounding the heart, it is very much unique among other cases).

Asbestos is the main cause of mesothelioma, majority of patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, doing jobs in asbestos related industries/companies or works around asbestos, where they easily inhales asbestos fibers, It normally takes too much time to develop mesothelioma from the time of 1st exposure, average 60 years.
